A trip to Hokitika

We’re just returned from west of the Southern Alps!  It was time for a short holiday for us and so we went to the lovely seaside town of Hokitika to meet other members of the @Home New Zealand Bed and Breakfast Association.

The West Coast has a lovely network of bed and breakfasts.  The place we are staying tonight is Teichelmann’s B&B.  Teichelmann’s is the former doctor’s surgery established by Ebenezer Teichelmann in late 1890’s or early 20th century and became a keen mountaineer and photographer in the region.  Along with botanist Leonard Cockayne he was instrumental in the establishment of Arthur’s Pass National Park.  Our hosts Frances and Brian are very experienced and assessed our homestay to make sure that we met @Home quality standards.  They have gone on to become great mentors and friends.  They’re good to learn from because they run an excellent B&B, get rave reviews on Trip Advisor and are warm and welcoming hosts.  They’ve got 4 star rating and it’s a lovely place to stay.
